Department of Languages

On 25 June 2018 the activities of Bhasha Parishat was inaugurated at K E Auditorium between 3.00 and 4.00 pm for I BA/ B.Sc language students of Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil and French. Dr. Tanveer Hasan A K, Programme Manager Center for Internet and Society A2K, Chief Guest of the occasion spoke on ‘Language and Culture’.
Dr Tanveer spoke about the importance of language in daily life and its significance with respect to the evolution of culture. He said that Language is the best way to express feelings and it is required to express one’s desires, interests, feelings and emotions.
Language also helps greatly in learning in the transmission of cultures, traditions, love, sympathy attitudes and aspirations of social beings. “Language impacts the daily lives of members of any race, creed, and region of the world. Language makes it possible for its users to have various experiences, to learn through and from the learning of others and see the essence of education.”
Language is pure and unchanging. It is important not because of identity; if your thoughts and writings are not original, your culture also is not original. Language is not just communication. Cultures and traditions are passing through language to the next generation.   It has to produce and make you to think of something. Our language should be in such a way that it should make the listeners think about the topic that we have spoken. Nothing can replace language.
A world without language is unimaginable.  The present world thinks that English is the only language to communicate, but Indian languages have every capability to produce Poetry,

Prose, Essay, Criticism and Theater. He said that unlike English, Kannada is a language with rich heritage and culture.  12th Century Vachana Sahitya simplified the Kannada language which has a very vast history. There is a fear in the Kannada community that Kannada language will die soon. It will never die but has to face the challenges in and around the world like science, technology, media, cinema and so on.
Students participated actively in the question answer session.
